VIA Rail’s Train 50 is VIA’s train connecting Belleville, ON with Kingston, ON. The train is part of VIA’s busy Quebec City to Windsor Corridor service and actually connects Canada’s 2 largest cities, Toronto & Montreal, via Belleville, Kingston & the capital city of Ottawa.

Prior to VIA, service was provided by Canadian National railways (CN) whose famed Turbo trains linked Toronto & Montreal during the 1960’s & 70’s. Modern equipment under VIA consists of LRC (Light, Rapid, Comfortable) coaches with active tilt technology that reduces sideways forces & increases passenger comfort when the train travels at high speeds around a curve. Motive power consists of General Motors Diesel 3,000 horsepower F40PH-2 or General Electric 4,250 horsepower P42DC diesel locomotives.

As the train departs the quaint old station in Belleville it travels through the pastoral splendor of southern Ontario on it’s way to Kingston.

Great views, spacious & comfortable seats, free wifi, and tasty meals & snacks are sure to delight on VIA Rail’s train 50.

There are taxi connections between Kingston VIA station and the waterfront for passengers wishing to connect to one of the 1000 Islands sightseeing cruises along the St. Lawrence River.
